Oldest IPL Records



In the game of T20, where records are broken everyday, and even more in the Indian Premier League. Some records in IPL are still standing for a long time.

Here I have listed some of the records which were set in the FIRST EDITION of IPL or in the beginning of second edition of IPL, which are still a record and yet to be overcome.

Highest Chased Total 
Rajasthan Royals chased down 214 runs, scored by Deccan Chargers in IPL 2008. And its still the highest chased total in IPL.

Most Extras in an Innings
Kolkata Knight Riders gave away 28 Extra runs (4 Byes, 8 Leg byes, 15 Wides, 1 No Ball) to Deccan 
Chargers on 20th April 2008 

Largest Win by number of Balls Remaining
Mumbai Indian beat Kolkata Knight Riders with 87 balls remaining. They chased down target of 68 in 5.3 overs, on 16th May 2008. 

Lowest Match Aggregates
Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders added just 135 runs on 16th May 2008 .

Lowest Innings Total
Rajasthan Royals were dismissed for 58 Runs by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2nd match of 2nd edititon of IPL. 

Least Double figure scores by batsmen in an innings 
In the opening game of IPL 2008, RCB's inning had only 1 score of double figures. (By Praveen Kumar, 18 runs)

BATTING Records

Highest Score at No.3
Mike Hussey's 116* for CSK vs KXIP at Mohali in 2008 is the highest score by a batsman batting at No.3. 3 others scored hundred at No.3 but Hussey's record remains still. 

Highest Score at No.4
Andrew Symonds' 117* for DC vs RR at Hyderabad in 2008 is the highest score by a batman batting at No.4. No other batsman has scored century in IPL at No.4, closest is Rohit Sharma's 87.

Highest Score at No.6
Rahul Dravid's 75* for RCB vs RR at Jaipur in 2008 is the highest score by a batsman batting at No.4. It still a record. 

Highest Score at No.7
Yousuf Pathan's 62* for RR vs DD at Centurion in 2009 is the highest score by a batsman batting at No.7. Still a record. 

Highest Score in a losing cause
Andrew Symonds' 117* for DC vs RR at Hyderabad in 2008 is the highest score by a batsman in a losing cause. Only Yousuf Pathan, Shane Watson and Sachin Tendulkar's hundreds in IPL have come in losing cause. 

Highest score by a Wicketkeeper
Adam Gilchrist's 109* for DC vs MI at Mumbai in 2008 is the highest score by a wicketkeeper. Gilchrist is the only wicketkeeper to hit century in IPL, and he did it twice. 

Highest score on Debut
Brendon McCullum's 158* for KKR vs RCB at Bangalore in 2008 is the highest score by a debutant in IPL. Only Mike Hussey is the other batsman to score a century on debut in IPL.

Most balls faced in an innings
Brendon McCullum played 73 balls in his 158*. This is highest by a batsman. Only Manish Pandey could equal it in his 114*(73) in 2009.

Sohail Tanvir's (RR) 6/14 vs Chennai Super Kings on 4th May 2008 is still to be broken - Match No. 24

Least runs conceded by a bowler in a 5 wicket haul
Anil Kumble (RCB) gave only 5 runs in his 5 wicket haul vs Rajasthan Royals in the opening game of 2009 IPL

Best Economy Rate by a bowler in an innings of all 4 overs bowled
Fidel Edwards (DC) had an economy rate of 1.50 vs Kolkata Knight Riders on 19th April 2009. Equaled by Aashish Nehra (DD) in the same edition vs Kings XI Punjab on 15th May, 2009.

FIELDING Records

Most Catches in an innings by a Fielder
Sachin Tendulkar (MI) caught 4 catches vs Kolkata Knight Riders on 16th May 2008. Equaled by David Warner vs Rajasthan Royals on 31st March 2010 and by Jacques Kallis vs Deccan Chargers on 11th April 2011, but still to be broken.
